From echoey room to music production studio
A Toronto-based rock and indie music producer working with two active local bands, approached Acoustic That Works to transform an empty room into a dedicated music production space.
The project
Before treatment, the room was extremely reflective. Even normal conversation created noticeable echoes, making it unsuitable for critical listening and music production.
Our solution
We custom-designed the acoustic panel layout and sizes specifically for this room, maximizing absorption coverage while working around the room's existing features.
Every panel was handcrafted by our team, including custom-sized wall panels and suspended ceiling clouds. At the client's request, we used black acoustic fabric throughout the installation, creating a clean, modern studio aesthetic.
The results: night and day
The difference before and after treatment was remarkable. Before installation, almost every sound produced noticeable echoes throughout the room. After treatment, the excessive reflections were dramatically reduced, creating an extremely clean and controlled listening environment.
The client now has a space much better suited for music production work.
Custom acoustic treatment for an attic guitar room
The client is a passionate guitar player and enthusiast with an incredible collection of vintage guitars, amps, and processors. His effect rack alone is easily a dream setup for almost any guitar player.
The room
He had a space in his attic that he wanted to turn into a dedicated guitar playing and listening room. After an onsite consultation, we designed a custom acoustic treatment plan specifically for the unique shape and layout of the room.
What we built
We custom built wall panels and ceiling clouds to fit the space, helping control reflections while working around the angled attic ceiling. The client chose white fabric for the panels so they would blend naturally with the room's aesthetic and keep the space feeling clean and open.
The result
The result is a much more controlled room that is better suited for critical listening, guitar playing, and enjoying his gear collection. With the custom treatment in place, the room now feels more focused, balanced, and acoustically comfortable.
From echoey room to home voice-over studio
A voice-over artist wanted to transform his room into a dedicated home recording space where he could work comfortably and capture clean, professional-sounding recordings.
The project
Before treatment, the room was filled with echoes and unwanted reflections. Even normal conversation produced noticeable reverberation, making it difficult to achieve the clean, controlled sound needed for voice-over work.
Our solution
We installed a total of 14 acoustic panels throughout the room, including wall-mounted panels and a suspended ceiling cloud. The panels were positioned across the space to reduce unwanted reflections and create a more controlled recording environment.
The client chose black acoustic fabric, creating a clean, modern look that contrasts beautifully with the white walls and light wood flooring.
The results: a dramatic transformation
The difference was night and day. What was once an echo-filled room is now an exceptionally clean-sounding, controlled space. The acoustic treatment dramatically reduced the room's reverberation, allowing voices to sound clearer, more focused, and more natural.
Best of all, the client can now record voice-over projects from the comfort of his own home, with a space designed to support his recording work throughout the day.
Church acoustic panel makeover
A church in Mississauga approached Acoustic That Works to refresh the appearance of its existing acoustic panels. The space already had ten massive 4′ × 8′ acoustic panels, but the fabric needed an upgrade.
The project
Rather than replacing the entire panels, we provided a practical, cost-effective solution: giving the existing panels a completely new look.
Our solution
We carefully replaced the fabric on all 10 existing acoustic panels using our Pro Acoustic Fabric Line. The client selected a combination of colours to complement the church's interior. The new fabric gives the panels a cleaner, more modern appearance while preserving the existing acoustic treatment.
By reusing the original panel structures, we avoided unnecessary replacement costs and material waste.
The results: a whole new look
The transformation gave the space a refreshed, professional appearance. The newly wrapped panels create a consistent, modern finish that blends beautifully with the church's interior while maintaining the acoustic treatment already in place.
You don't always need brand-new acoustic panels to transform a space. Sometimes, a premium fabric upgrade is all it takes.
Custom acoustic treatment for a recording studio vocal booth
A recording studio needed to improve the acoustics of its vocal recording booth to achieve cleaner, more professional-sounding recordings.
The project
In smaller recording spaces, unwanted reflections can easily affect vocal clarity, making proper acoustic treatment especially important.
Our solution
We handcrafted 10 custom-sized acoustic panels, each measuring 16″ × 72″, specifically for this recording booth.
The tall, narrow panels provide extensive wall coverage while fitting neatly into the available space. Finished in dark acoustic fabric, they complement the studio's existing wooden acoustic features and create a clean, professional appearance.
The results: cleaner, better recordings
The improvement was immediately noticeable. With the new panels installed, the booth sounds significantly cleaner and more controlled. Unwanted reflections are reduced, allowing vocals to sound more focused and natural during recording.
The result is a more comfortable, professional recording environment where artists and engineers can focus on capturing great performances.
